Trip Overview

Traversing the Rolwaling Valley, the Tashi Lapcha Pass Trek explores the Sherpa culture and practices. The trek presents off-beat trails that continue through the Sherpa villages in the northern part of the country. With the scenic majesty of the Everest and Rolwaling ranges, the trails also offer a peek into the history of the Buddhist traditions and monasteries. Likewise, the trek crosses one of the most dangerous passes in Nepal, the Tashi Lapcha Pass (5755m).

One of the most difficult treks in Nepal, the 20-day trip begins at Kathmandu. Here, you spend a day and sight-see around the valley while also making preparations for the trek. Then, you get on a drive to Dolakha and trek to. Next, you head to the northernmost part of the Rolwaling region and head to Jagat. After passing Simigaon on the way, you will arrive at Dongga. The entire trail is filled with surreal views of the Langtang and Gauri Shankar ranges. Further, you will reach the village and witness the cultural lifestyle of the local Sherpas. Then, you head east to Na village which is also the oldest Sherpa settlement in the region. As the harder sections of the trek begin, you will trek along the Drolambau Glacier.

Next, you will cross the Tashi Lapcha Pass (5755m) which also offers a beautiful vista of the Rolwaling and Gauri Shankar Himalayas. The pass is said to be one of the most difficult ones in Nepal and requires a cautious climb to cross over. Crossing over to the Sagarmatha National Park, you will trek to Thame which houses one of the oldest monasteries in the region- the Thame Monastery. Trekking south, you will reach Khumjung where you explore the Sherpa culture and history of the region. Then, the trek continues along the Bhote Koshi River and reaches Lukla. Finally, a short flight brings you back to Kathmandu.

Spring and autumn are the finest seasons for the trek. Moreover, the trek is a difficult one; so, trekkers have to be at the best of their physical condition to do the trek.
