Trip Overview
Tamang Heritage Trek is a newly opened trek near Langtang Valley. This unbeaten trail is a new experience for the trekkers, exploring the beauty of mountains with a rich ancient culture of local Tamang people. Tamang people are Tibetan origin who came to Nepal around the Seventh century as a horse rider and settled in this area.
The highlight of this trek is traditionally built stone houses, the people in a traditional dress, prayer flags, Prayer wheels and Walls along with a stunning view of Mt. Ganesh Himal, Mt. Langtang, and some Tibetan Range. A visit to Rasuwagadhi, a historical fort in Nepal Tibet border is just a reminder of our relation.
This is ten days standard itinerary, however, depending on your time and interest, it can be extended to Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Lake too.
Trip Itinerary
- Upon arrival at Tribhuwan Intl Airport in Kathmandu, a representative from Vista Trek waiting, well in time, to receive you, shall welcome you to this land of the towering Himalayas. Once reaching your hotel in a car from the airport, all you need to do is check in and enjoy the refreshment served.
- We then visit the Vista Trek office for discussion on trekking, introduction to the guide and porter and settlement of dues if any. Since you often still have some time left for a walk around Thamel, you can do so if you please.
- We head off to Syaprubeshi on a local deluxe bus early morning. This almost 6-7-hour journey starts out of Kathmandu through a beautiful hilly forest area on Pasang Lhamu Highway to the North-West. Stopping for breakfast and lunch on the way, the ride comes to its end once we reach Syaprubeshi. With the Botekoshi River flowing from the North-West to the South-East, the settlement sits on the confluence of Bhotekoshi River and Langtang River and now has spread on all three open spaces. The place is increasingly becoming a tourist as well as an economic hub in the area.
- We spend our night here.
- After breakfast start our trek.
- The trail goes up to the view point from where we can see close view of Mt. Ganesh Himal, Shishapangba and Langtang. An hour down hill from the view point bring us Goljung village for the lunch. From here another 3 hours pleasure walk bring us in Gatlang village to end our trek for today.
- Homestay at a local house in Gatlang
- After breakfast, we start our trek descending to Thangbuchet to enjoy mountain view. After spending some time here, we continue through Chilime Hydro dam in Chilime Village. The trail then goes up to Tatopani village, our final destination for today.
- The literal mean of Tatopani is "Hot Water" which also refers natural hot springs in Nepali language. The pool is still there however no more hot water due to damaged by the earthquake in April 2015.
- Homestay in Tatopani Village.
- Today, start our trek through beautiful pine forest to small Tamang settlement of Brimdang Village. Few hours uphill walk till bring us to the top of Nagthalidanda, the highest point of this trek from where we have excellent view of Mt. Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Kerung and more. On the way, we may encounter wild dear, monkey and other animals as this area is inhabited by many wildlives.
- We then descend all the way to Tamang Village to end our trek.
- Homestay in Thuman Village.
- After breakfast, we start our trek. On the way to Timure we visit historical Rasuwagadhi, a border of Nepal & Tibet, which used to be old trade route in ancient time, remind us old relation between Nepal & Tibet. About five hours walk to end our trek in Timure for the overnight.

- Today, we have pleasant walk to Briddim through meadows and rhododendron forest. Briddim is popular village for unique home stay experience. We enjoy our evening with the host family, eating and living together. They provide us there usual clean bed for the sleeping. Local people gather and perform their cultural and tradition song and dance.
- Around 43 traditional stone houses are in Briddim which attract with their live craftmanship as well.
- Homestay in Briddim Village.
- Today is our last day of walking.We start our trek with gentle down hill enjoying our walk with the nice terrace fields, local villages along with nice surrounding of high hills. About 3 hours walk is enough to be back to Syabrubesi for the Overnight.
- Overnight at a guest house in Syabrubesi.
- We head off to Kathmandu on a local deluxe bus early morning. This almost seven-hour journey comes to its stop in Kathmandu with guaranteed two stops for breakfast and lunch.
- Back in Kathmandu, and only your WILL shall dictate your involvement or indulgence as you may please since our arrival is in the afternoon. In the evening, however, please allow us the pleasure of your company during the fare-well dinner organized by Vista Trek.
- Spend the night in a hotel.
- If you have a morning flight, we leave for Tribhuwan Intl Airport early morning in a car arranged by the office.
- If your flight is in the late afternoon or evening, only your WILL shall dictate your involvement or indulgence as you may please before leaving for Tribhuwan Intl Airport in the vehicle.

Useful Info
About Accommodation.
In Kathmandu, we will accommodate you at Hotel Himalayan Traveller’s Inn, and In Pokhara at Hotel Trekkers’ Inn. Local lodges accommodation provided during the trek on twin sharing basis. Hotel in Kathmandu and in Pokhara comes with private bathroom , however in mountain, toilet and shower will be on sharing basis. In the busy months, (October/November & April/ May) you may have to share the room with other traveler as some villages have limited number of local lodges .
About Meal
You can enjoy typical Nepali food as well as continental , Italian, Indian and Tibetan. Dinner and breakfast serve at the teahouse where we stay and lunch will be served on the way to next destination. In Kathmandu and in Pokhara, only breakfast is provided. If you are a vegetarian or vegan, no worries, Nepal is such a easy place to get several vegetarian options.
About Staff:
A Guide and a porter assist you from Kathmandu to Kathmandu. In a group with more than 8 clients, 2 guide will be provided. A porter provided for 2 trekkers, and carries between 15 to 20 K.G.
About Equipments
Following Equipment list is recommended to bring for the trek.
Down Sleeping Bag, Down Jacket, Long sleeved shirt, Jumper or fleecy jacket, T – shirts, Trekking shoes or boots, Comfy shoes for around the camp, thick and warm woolen socks, Light cotton socks , A day bag to carry your valuable, Sun hat, Woolen hat, Gloves, rain coat, Sun block, lip balm , Goggles or sunglasses, Long underwear, Thermal wear, Nylon windbreaker, Nylon wind pants, Water bottle, Sewing kit, Medical & first aid kit, Flash light, Batteries and bulbs, Swiss army knife, Towel and toiletries etc.Please kindly check our Equipment list for complete details.
Temperature
Temperature in Tamang Heritage Region vary as per the elevation and season. Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to December) is quite warm that you can walk with t-shirts and shorts during day. It can be hot and humid in starting days. Above 3000, day time temperature is around 5-10 °C and night time temperature is below 0 °C. In higher elevation, temperature is cold through out a year and night time temperature can reach up to–10 °C in winter. There are no heating system inside the room in guest houses, therefore it is important to prepare warm clothes and sleeping bag for the trek.
Physical Fitness and experience
Tamang Heritage Trek is a moderate which is fit for those who has the ability to walk 5-6 hours ups and down in a day carrying own day bag. Some days are even longer with 7- 8 hours of walking. Tamang Heritage trek is not a high altitude trek therefore a person with average physical fitness can complete this trek. Few weeks prior to the trip, doing some physical exercise is better . No technical skill is needed however past experience is Helpful. If you are taking medicine for heart, lung or for blood diseases, please kindly consult your doctor and inform to Vista Trek P. Ltd.
About Insurance,
You have to obtain the travel insurance which should cover emergency evacuation and medical expenses. Some Insurance policy’s cover only up to 4000 meter, so please kindly confirm with the insurance company before you purchase it.
About Seasons
Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) are the best months for Tamang Heritage Trek. You can do it in winter (December to February ) if you are used to with extreme cold temperature.
About Bus Drive
Highway in Nepal are safe, however sometime transport can be halted due to landslide , strike or by political issues. In such case trip itinerary will be affected. Thus, we would like to request you to add few days extra in Kathmandu. If you complete your trip smoothly, then you can enjoy your time with other activities like sightseeing, White water rafting. Jungle activities or more.
