Trip Overview

Are you afraid of taking flight but want to see Mt. Everest in a short span of time? No problem, here we are with Pikey Peak trekking. Situated at the base of Mt. Number in the lower Khumbu region, Pikey Peak is an ideal destination to enjoy a majestic view of Himalayan Panorama yet avoiding the crowd. This trek is famous for Sunrise and sunset and the view of Mt. Everest, Mt. Makalu, Kanchenjungha, Gaurishankar, and many other high mountains. A number of Buddhist monasteries, Old Sherpa Villages and their lifestyle as well as Rhododendron, Magnolia and Wild orchids are the highlights of this trek.

The trek starts with a scenic drive to Bhandar on Araniko highway and walks toward Ngur Village en route to reach Pikey Peak, the main destination of the trip. We then trek to Junbesi and explore centuries-old Thuptenchholing Gompa ( Monastery) and finally trek to Phaplu and take Jeep back to Kathmandu to end our trip.

Trip Itinerary

  • Upon arrival at Tribhuwan Intl Airport in Kathmandu, a representative from Vista Trek waiting, well in time, to receive you, shall welcome you to this land of the towering Himalayas. Once reaching your hotel in a car from the airport, all you need to do is check in and enjoy the refreshment served.
  • We then visit the Vista Trek office for discussion on trekking, introduction to the guide and porter and settlement of dues if any. Since you often still have some time left for a walk around Thamel, you can do so if you please.

  • We head off to Bhandar early morning. On narrow, winding hilly roads, from a foothill to its hilltop and down again on more than a number of occasions, this around 8-hour drive comes with spectacular views of the hills, the villages and the greenery. Stopping only for breakfast then lunch on the way, the vehicle comes to its final stop at Bhandar.
  • We spend the night here.

  • After breakfast, we walk for three hours to Chaulakharka. The route, mostly a comfortable downhill with a few short uphills at places, takes us through a few villages as well as forest areas where we will need to cross streams and rivers at times. Chaulakharka, a big village with 20-30 households and a number of Monasteries, is where we stop for lunch.
  • After lunch, we walk for another three hours or so to Ngaur on a trail that is a mix of flats and comfortable uphills. Ngaur, located on an open area, is similar to Bhandar in many ways.
  • We spend the night here.

  • After breakfast, we walk all the way to Pikey Peak. On a comfortable uphill, we start out through a thick pine forest which gradually becomes thinner as we reach our destination. This vantage position generously showcases quite a few number of peaks in the Everest Himalayan Range of Nepal including Mt Thamsherku, Mt Khangtega, Numbur Himal, Mera Peak, Mt Gaurishanker and Dorje Lakpa
  • This is our stopover for lunch, dinner and he night as well.

  • After breakfast, we walk for around two and a half hours to Surké. A mix of comfortable downhills and flats, the path takes us all through a forest to Surké, a small village. This is our stopover for lunch.
  • The next two and a half hours to Junbesi is through a landscape that sees shrubs and grasses and only one or two constructions along the way. Junbesi, on the riverside of Junbesi Khola, is a dense village with clustered homes.
  • We spend the night here.

  • After breakfast, we walk for around two hours to ThuptenchholingGompa. This highly revered centuries old monastery has small cottages outside for the monks to reside in. We have our lunch here and return to Junbesi for the night.

  • After breakfast, we walk for roughly two and a half hours to Benighat. A combination of downhills and flats, the route goes along the banks of Junbesi Khola through a forest. Located on the riverside, Benighat, with a few teahouses, is where we stop for lunch.
  • Our way to Phaplu, from here on, starts out still along the banks for about an hour, followed by an hour and a half of a comfortable uphill. Phaplu is a big village with an airport.
  • We spend the night here.

  • We head off for Kathmandu on a local bus or a jeep. Although a little to the narrow side, this hilly road is considered as one of the best. The vehicle does stop for breakfast and lunch on the way.
  • Once in Kathmandu and in the evening, please allow us the pleasure of your company during the fare-well dinner organized by Vista Trek.

  • If you have a morning flight, we leave for Tribhuwan Intl Airport early morning in a car arranged by the office.
  • If your flight is in the late afternoon or evening, only your WILL shall dictate your involvement or indulgence as you may please before leaving for Tribhuwan Intl Airport in the vehicle.
